"homespun (please remove your shoes)"
Awarded LMCC Creative Engagement Grant 2017
A participatory dance gathering that creates a space to gather, interact, and enjoy our collective stories while interrogating expectations of traditional performance. By reconfiguring traditional performance spaces and activities we hope to cultivate a sense of intimacy and camaraderie. Upon removing your shoes for homespun, you may be asked to tell a joke, sing, dance, lip sync, or play games.
REVIEWS
“…daring and innovative design united a room of strangers through movement, play and laughter, and gifted all who were present with freedom and joy. … over the course of a single show, Indah is able to illuminate and dissolve taken-for-granted roles and behaviors of performance without enlisting contrived tactics. Instead, she is able to create this change through steadfast intention, innovation and a brave spirit.”
“The moment you enter Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church to see Indah Walsh’s “homespun”…you’re in a dramatically different world: benign, playful, welcoming. Children and adults are invited to draw, play and build…. Walsh and four dancers interact charmingly with the audience.”
